Simulation Theory illustration for COSMOS Magazine

Illustration done for COSMOS magazine. They do a science fiction short story with every issue which they accompany with an illustration. The story is set in Afghanistan and is about a man and his robot friend who are both in a bomb disposal unit. Here they’re relaxing with some beers after some enemy contact.Took me about three or four days to complete. Was good fun, really enjoyed painting all the mech and robot stuff and the suit the man is wearing.

Below are the first two sketches I provided to the client before they decided on one. I’ve also included all the process steps of the illustration and some detail shots at the end.
